Why Should We Boycott the World Cup?

You want me to boycott the World Cup?
We know you’ve heard this one before. There are plenty of obvious reasons to criticize FIFA. Recent World Cups have been held in Russia & Qatar, Infantino has made clear his preference for working with authoritarian governments, and the 2034 World Cup is set to be hosted in Saudi Arabia. Clearly FIFA has no problem ignoring its own commitments to human rights, but how much longer can they keep ignoring the fans?
Why should we boycott the World Cup in the USA?
We, as organizers of the Boycott USA 2026 campaign, are directly involved in immigrant organizing and supporter culture. We have witnessed the harm done to immigrant communities in the United States caused by decades of refusal to deal with immigration reforms. And now, under the new administration, these policies are being further weaponized against both visitors and residents of the USA.
Every day there is another story about masked ICE agents making violent arrests, citizens being detained by ICE, harsh interrogations at the border, visas revoked en masse, or illegal deportations to foreign prisons. International news has been both tragic and embarrassing, with the USA cutting foreign aid, threatening our allies, and silencing critics of the genocide in Gaza.
Our goal is to call attention to what is happening here now, to warn anyone who may be considering a visit to the United States, or to anyone who wants to send a message to this new authoritarian regime in the USA: stay home, do not travel here, don’t buy tickets or merch or attend fan events.
Tell FIFA, tell the USA, tell Trump: we reject the corruption, the human rights violations, and we will not celebrate a World Cup that honors a dictator.
What can I do to support a World Cup bocyott?
We’ve added a news section to the site, with links to coverage of visa & immigration issues, domestic crackdowns, and international issues. You can read more, along with our own commentary and coverage, in the news section.
Please share these articles and our site with your communities on social media.
We are currently in the process of reaching out to our friends and contacts in supporters groups around the USA and the world. We’re asking for statements of solidarity in our mission to boycott the cup. We will organize around one message: No World Cup in this United States. If your section is concerned about attending the World Cup in the USA, post your own commitment to boycott and send it to us here: Contact Us.
We hope to have more news, original commentary, and hope to add a resource library soon, with guides on how to deal with immigration enforcement.
Thank you for your support.
